Kaş, discovered by
the hippies during the seventies,
is a small picturesque fisher village
with an authentic Turkish, mellowed
atmosphere.
The village is located on the unspoiled Turkish south coast, and protected by the impressive
Taurus mountain range.
The coast is rugged and has a variety of small Turkish and Greek islands.
We have travelled around the world a lot and
now once again have found a place where we feel at home.
We love Kas among others because of its warm climate, the Turkish
hospitality, the beautiful nature, historical places and myths that you
can see, feel an relive everywhere.

Its picturesque Ottoman architecture, ancient monuments and
whitewashed facades offers a
perfect background to the wealthy
displays for tourists in the narrow and
occasionally steep streets.
You will find antique shops,
boutiques and jewellers, textile, glass
and earthenware,
besides attractive
terraces and
tea gardens.
The evenings in
Kaş
are an experience with its high-quality (fish)
restaurants, bars and gorgeous
terraces.
Kas is a nice little town, very lively, with friendly
people. We experienced the atmosphere
as completely relaxing, totally agreeable.
The attitude of the merchants was
rather distanced, very pleasantly.

The former fisher village
has an intimate harbour, where excursions- and diving boats
compete for a
place
with the perpetually growing number of sailing yachts.
Kaş
has remains of both the Lycian and Greek / Roman culture.
In the
centre stands a Lycian tomb, a monument whose text still has not been
deciphered.
There is also is a Hellenistic theatre, on the peninsula close to the sea,
where
performances are given
during summertime.
Kas is a tranquil holiday
town with very warm-hearted people.

The Antalya
Times about Kas:
(June 2009)
"Kas is still
to this day a dreamy town on the Lycian coast surrounded by the wonders of
nature.
All around Kas you can find beautiful hidden beaches and bays. The town has
about 10.000 inhabitants
and lies between the Ak Dag mountains (3080 m.) and the sea about 180 km.
southwest of Antalya.
Its easy to understand why Kas has been spared from mass tourism.
Until the 1980's the only access to the town was via a donkey path.
In earlier
times Kas was a small fisher village.
The local core is very much resemblant of a small Greek fishing village with
its architecture, its narrow lanes
and its traditional wooden balconies. Most houses are under conservation
protection as monuments and historical buildings.
Today many
artists, painters and authors live in Kas.
The town was a popular
destination and a confidential secret among European dropouts in the 1970s.
You can also watch modern stone cutters here practising their craft.
However, the highly skilled Lycian stonecutters who chiselled out the
magnificent tombs in the precipitous cliffs faces have long gone.
These Lycian tombs are still one of the most important points of interest in the
region.
the small harbour promenade is also delightful From the idyllic harbour big
and small boats ferry passengers to
countless white small beaches or divers
to the shipwrecks and aircraft wreck which you can find here.
In Kas you
can discover something new everyday among the small and inexpensive
restaurants or the
countless antique tombs and ruins. The antique theatre also offers a unique
experience as it was built without
a stage backdrop and thus gives you a view directly to the sea.
This view is particularly breathtaking at sundown.
From Kas a
small ferry goes daily for approximately 20 Euros to the wonderful island of
Meis (in Greek Kastellorizo).
The island is very close to the mainland and the ferry crossing takes just
20 minutes.
In Kas,
tradition and tourism combine in a pleasant mixture- here you can see
traditional foot washing going on
beside the mosque in the harbour alongside
modern stores bringing fashion from around the world.
But above all else, a
visit to Kas is a change to rediscover inner peace and relaxation.
Kas is a
town you really must see. "
